Hi guys,

I'm going to be working on two armies this year- noble Thousand Sons and the filthy dogs of Russ. The theme behind the armies should be pretty obvious, and here's my first WIP bolter-marines. I would have like a basing style that suits Prospero better, but I wasn't happy with any of my experiments. Maybe they're fighting in a burnt-out park?

Let me know what you think about the scheme :)

Long time no post, but the encouragement helps!

Here's what I have mostly finished, but they're in varying stages of completion. Mostly just some combination of transfers and basing to go (speaking of transfers, anybody got some tips for the bloody scarabs from the BoP sheet? Just can't get them to sit flat, and relief cuts are near impossible):

Are you using micro-sol and micro-set? That's basically mandatory for transfers on curved surfaces.

I've been using the Vallejo equivalents, but it might be time to bite the bullet and get the proper stuff. The Vallejo ones seem to work well on the sun, but I can cut relief cuts into it fairly easily. I'm currently losing almost one scarab for every one that I manage to get to what I deem to be an acceptable standard (which isn't very high).

Annoying. I have no further aid to offer :/

Still looking great, but it must be tiresome.

I haven't got the prospero transfer sheet, but i have found most GW transfers are difficult to work with compared to the Forgeworld transfers. I use a microsol/set equivalent even so.
It may be worth the investment to get a set from forgeworld.

Ok, so I've made a fair bit of progress over the past couple of weeks (by my standards). Just basing and transfers to go. I'll be turning the meltaguns into a support squad of 5, same for the heavy bolters.

The remaining marines will be divided into 3 squads of veterans, and I'll be filling them out with combi-weapons (a different weapon for each squad). I'm currently assembling the remaining marines, and the next stage of the project is to finish them, a dual-lascannon contemptor, and a squad of termies (will probably run them as Sekhmet with powerfists).

Not much in the way of an update, but I decided to rebase the entire army and re-do the bolters white.

I went to paint some more today, but my cheap and nasty airbrush has finally carked it :(. The good news is I can now get a decent one!

Anyhow, here's how they're looking at the moment:

These look amazing! Makes me wish I had tried for a metallic red scheme. I find sometimes that looks too shiny when other people do it, but the scratchy darkness on yours turns it down just enough to look realistic but eye-catching. I agree the white weapons look nice. Black weapons suit a cleaner armor color for contrast, but white with grey is perfect for your unique armor scheme. Props!

Thanks mate, high praise indeed! I wish I could say that the scheme was down to talent, but it's really dead easy (washes, mostly).

Thanks mate. Kind words help to keep me going- I'm not actually a gamer, I just paint for fun.

In other news, a new airbrush and compressor are on their way, so I'll be able to make a start on my Mortis Contemptor, Tartaros, remaining vets, vehicles, and characters!

I absolutely love the red and gold you've got going. Consider it stolen! I'd love to see any progress you've made
