I've decided that the last version of the Thousand Sons are as done as they're going to be, and it's time to start anew to coincide with the release of Inferno. Over the last six months I've been squirreling away bits and kits, and now that I've finished the Imperial Fists for Adepticon it was time to start sorting through the box and start cobbling together a new army.

VeteranSquad1BiP.jpg

The next incarnation of my Thousand Sons will be a late-heresy force. I'm envisioning an army set post-Prospero but prior to the Rubric of Ahriman, where the legion is beginning to unravel both figuratively and literally - a bit more flamboyance in the bling, a bit more in the way of mutations showing up, and the influences of the Primordial Annihilator beginning to make their mark as they've done with the other three chaos god-aligned legions in the later stages of the heresy. Leading the charge on the new force is the first of two Veteran Squads (as I'm quite liking what I'm hearing on how they'll function in the upcoming book), using a mix of the new plastic Rubric Marines, backpacks from the Betrayal at Calth set, and Achean shoulder pads from FW.

Sorcerer2BiP%20(1).jpg

The sorcerers for the force I sort of envisioned in increasing levels of craziness. This mostly-reasonable chap will be the L1 variant. A little blinged out and with some subtle Tzeentchian iconography but otherwise fairly 'normal'.

Sorcerer3BiP%20(1).jpg

I quite like the Corvidae/Divination cult, so the second-level sorcerer really pushes the bird theme, as though the cult ethos is starting to make itself apparent on the form of the armour. Both of the cloaked backpacks are just held on with blu-tac and the moment and will be painted separately.

Lastly I wanted an interesting centerpiece Praetor for the force. The as-yet-unnamed leader of the army lost his legs in the Burning of Prospero, but rather than submitting to bionics he uses his considerable telekinetic powers to hold himself aloft. This model was a blast to build, and is based on the lower half of the new Changeling model, I knew as soon as I saw it that I had to build a sorcerer using the bits!

Next up on the building mat are the second squad of Veterans, and then the first of two twenty-man tactical squads. They'll be a bit more reserved overall, using the Mk.IV Calth bodies, and the FW upgrade shoulders and heads, but I'll need to make another FW order to get all the relevant bits for the second twenty dudes. Of course with all the amazing new kits they've shown off over the last couple days at the Weekender I have a feeling I'll be making several orders for new kits over the next few months!

I look forward to watching how this progresses! I really like the bird sorcerer, it's got a really great day old school GW feel to it!

Thanks folks! It's taken 4 iterations of the army before the rules dropped, and I'm psyched to finally have 'em just a few weeks out. From what I'm hearing I finally might have a chance to make up for the dozens and dozens of losses over the years!

A little more building, got the first 20-man tac squad built:

A staple of all of my Thousand Sons armies is trusty Sergeant Hesyre, who has always had a little touch of the flesh change going on. I think this is my favorite incarnation of him though. Really has the "Aw hell, THAT can't be good" vibe. :)

As usual I worked up a painting chart to keep track of the project. Started off by hauling out the box I'd been chucking bits and kits into over the last six months to see what all was in there. Turns out it's darn near 6000 points already, with just a bare handful of models still needing to be purchased (KSons Castellax, and assault squad and Magnus). Could be I have a problem... :D

Hot damn I am excited to get back to working on the Thousand Sons!

Amazing work mate! Love all of the kit bashes. The bird character is especially badass.

Do you have a paint scheme ready to go? Keen to see these painted up as I am also gearing up to paint a Tsons army.

Also, where are those glorious bases form? They're amazing.

Cheers :)

Thanks!

Will be trying out the metallic red look with these guys, working up a few test models first to see how it looks.

The bases are from Elrik's Hobbies, they do a whole set in various sizes!

When he's done, can we get a side-by-side with Hesyres different incarnations?

Been a pretty busy week, but I did manage to spend some time gluing my fingers together, and incidentally build a few models!

Re-engaging on the proto disc riders, Skyhunter Grav-Chariots (counts-as jetbikes):

And one of several test models on which I've been trying out the new paint scheme. Not quite perfected yet tone-or-wash-wise, but coming into focus!

Awesome stuff so far. For the Cataphractii Sekhmet, did you just 3d print your own stuff? Flying chariots are cool!

Thanks! The shoulder pads were from Pop Goes The Monkey, while the torsos and loincloths were from Wargame Exclusive. I really dig the previewed FW kits, but I had some of the WGE torsos left from the previous incarnation of the force...

The big ol' box of joy from FW arrived this afternoon, and within was held a whole mess of heads (among several other goodies which will be revealed in due course) - I set about en-capitating a bunch of models that were on hold awaiting the delivery.

Heavy Support Squad Khalid (Aether-Fire Plasma Cannons)

The first of three Javelins (Multi-melta and lascannon)

Now if it would only stop snowing so I could primer stuff!
