Hello everybody,

I've recently taken a break from doing my Emperor's Children army to work on some Alpha Legion for the global HH podcast escalation league. I figured I should make another project log thread to help keep track of my progress and to myself motivated.

I had just finished painting the squads for the 500 point zone mortalis June stage, which were a 10 man breacher squad and 5 man heavy support team with heavy flamers. I already have July's 1000 point stage planned. I hope to actually build and finish a delegatus, adds 5 terminators, an apothecary and a cortus contemptor.

Very good looking Alphas! One of the best here in this forum I guess!

You knocked these out of the park. This also answers my "would the BaC marines make good breachers?" question. Those shields are bad-ass. Did you use chipping fluid for the damage, or do it all by hand?

These are rad as hell! I love the pose on the Sergeant, and I'm looking forward to seeing more of those mkVI legionnaires in the back. Is the blue Clear Blue over metallics, or a metalic blue spray?

Thanks for the kind words guys, it means a lot because I got a lot of inspiration from the project logs on this forum when I was figuring out how exactly to do my Alphas.

Did you use chipping fluid for the damage, or do it all by hand?

The chipping was painted by hand. The clear coats I used don't really work with the chipping fluid/hairspray methods.

Is the blue Clear Blue over metallics, or a metalic blue spray?

The blue is a clear coat (Badger Minitaire plasma fluid) over metallics (Vallejo Metal Colour steel with silver hilights).

Solid work, man. What kind of bases are you thinking?

I'm going to use those new scenic plastic bases from GW, but with some fine pumice gel over for an added sand and dirt to make them look more outdoors-y.

I've gotten the next 500 points for July assembled and primed today, basically trying to use up the rest of the Calth box I had gotten. 5 cataphractii, the ugtemptor, an apothecary I had intended for my Emperor's Children but never got past a rough purple basecoat, and that fancy limited edition praetor model that seems to be so hot right now.

Gorgeous Alphas, why does the teal-tallic legion seem to attract so many great painters?

Also, first Alpha Breachers I've seen, they're looking great, particularly with the contrast provided by the white shields!

Some more progress on July's escalation stage. After getting the metallic and teal base colour on all the models I decided to get the termis and dread done first, so I can spend a bit more time on the apothecary and HQ model.

The termis and dread are getting close to done, I just gloss coated them today in preparation for some oils and transfers. The dread has been a bit of a test piece for me for using this scheme on larger models and surfaces. I think I'll need to tweak how starkly I do the shading before I start doing more vehicles.

You brought this scheme to perfection. This is the best metallic-blue on Alphas I ever saw here. This is really inspiring! I´m looking forward to see some vehicles :D

Some more progress: the terminators just need some edge hilighting, the dread needs chipping and the hilighting, while the characters still need a gloss coat for transfers and oils. It's almost the end of the month but I think I should be able to finish this easily. I also played a few ZM games the other day with photos, hopefully I'll have enough willpower to write up some battle reports.
