So I thought I'd split this off to it's own thread from my existing Mechanicum force. It started off as just being part of my usual force with one Knight, but as it's growing I wanted to be able to field a full Knight list.
The rough background idea I had was a small force who left Baroda as soon as the new Knight chassis arrived, on the first passing expedition fleet (my Mechanicum force).
It started with the Cerastus Knight-Castigator, I think it was just as the scheme for Makabius was shown, but not linked to a house at that point but I liked the look. So it's a slightly different scheme to the Knights that followed it. I did add a few Makabius transfers to the shoulders when they were released, but otherwise left it as was.
In most games (when I play as allies to Mechanicum) he is a standard Scion Martial. He's been a solid performer, the sweep attack + deflagerate can remove entire squads in one go and so is difficult to tarpit.
Next came the Cerastus Knight-Lancer, this time I had Book 4 with the details of the House and it's pattern closer meets the official one. Including the excellent transfers.
Up until now, he is nearly always used alongside the Castigator as an ally force with my Mechanicum. I take him as the Seneschal as the +1 Inv save is very good, especially as it can be used in CC. He is a bit more hit and miss. Is often the first target my opponent will try to bring down. Though it's rare there is a target of value high enough to earn his points back before he dies. Last game he stomped a 10 man Garvewarden Squad and their Praetor into the ground just as their massed chainfists brought him down.
Next came the Cerastus Knight-Atropos. Had a lot of issues with the first miniature due to persistent release agent, but eventually the great customer service at FW worked things out and I finally got him assembled and finished. Not sure if it's just the practice of being my third knight, or the hassle I went through to get him finished, but he's my favourite of the three so far. He has a couple of lightning bolts on the chest plate, as well as a campaign mark on the carapace to mark him having fought alongside the VIII Legion as part of the 17th Expedition fleet before he met up with other members of his own house.
Only used in one game (back before the previous version was returned to FW) so don't have much experience but cannot wait to get him into battle now. Not sure how i'd use him, but I think just as a Scion Martial until I can find a role for him.
After enjoying painting the Atrapos and preferring the rounded carapace, I decided to go for the Questoris Knight-Magaera. I've never been a fan of the plastic knight, thinking it looks too stumpy. But the FW parts I think make enough of a difference. The aim was to try magnetizing so I can use him with Crusader rules mostly, with the lightning gun counting as the rapid fire battle cannon or thermal cannon when in Crusader mode. Here he is as WIP, in both modes.
A couple of small changes, such as replacing the tips of the melta-gun and heavy flamer to more heresy looking versions. I also magnetized the Lightning gun arm, so in future I could get the parts to make the other options.
I'm planning to have the stumpy done before the FW Open day in the hope that the Porphyrion is available to buy. So that's it for the Knights so far.
The army also includes a small (but possibly growing) Solar Auxilia force as allies. These are made from the GW Skitarii kit, with the idea being that they are one of the small retainer forces mentioned as some of the Makabius knights have accompanying them as they head off to find glory.
First up was a 20 man lasrifle section, painted to match the house colours.
I then used some of the spare parts (and did quite a lot of bit hunting on ebay, etc) to complete a storm section armed with volkites (a slightly different pattern, that was phased out...)
These will be getting a Dracosan at some point for their transport.
Finally a shot of the Retinue so far, including a WIP mortar. Using the standard SA kit, with the Skitarii gunner added.
Also has the Knight Scion model and a kitbashed HQ based on the Genestealer Primus. Not fully sure on the HQ side of the force yet, I may end up going for a tank commander in the future.
That's it for now. Finishing the Mageara and Medusa next, while waiting and drooling over the Porphyion...
