Hi everyone,

beside my Blood Angels project (which you can see in the BA section here), I decided to start an Alpha Legion project too. This one will be my main 30k army, with the Blood Angels as allies.

At the moment I´m still more in Theoryhammer than in playing 30k. I´m still trying to figure out what units I´ll add to my army list. Nevertheless, the first 10-men Tactical Squad is ready for paint.

So what you definitely will see here, are a lot of Marines. Right now, I´m waiting for a Forgeworld delivery and I need just another B@C box, so the first units I will show you here will be the following:

2x Tactical Squads (10 men), with Vexilla

1x Heavy Support Squad (10 men), with 10x Volkite Culverin, Artificier Armour, Vexilla

1x Tactical Support Squad (10 men) with 10x Volkite Caliver, Artificier Armour, Vexilla

1x Lernaean Terminator Squad OR normal Cataphractii Squad (10 men) - no matter which one, both would be equipped with 5 Chainfists and 5 Powerfists

1x Praetor on Jetbike with either mastercrafted Thunderhammer or Paragon Blade, Iron Halo, Warp Shunt Field and Digital Lasers (this guy may also be a Consul Delegatus)

5x Scimitar Jetbikes - still not shure if equipped for anti-tank or anti-infantry...

1x Fire Raptor with Reaper Autocannons

1x Contemptor Dreadnaught, Kheres Assaultcannon

In future, I´m looking forward to add Armillus Dynat, a Spartan for the Terminators, one or two Sicarans, another Contemptor with two Kheres A.C., a Falchion, a Veteran Squad with Powerfist, Melter and Melterbombs, and of course the new Headhunter Kill Team.

I think those are good units to run with the infiltrate or scout rule, especially infiltrating Terminators with a Spartan.

What do you think?

What is the delivery system for Lernaeans and Heavy Support Squad or are they infiltrating?

Depends on the scenario. If Armillus Dynat is in the game, the Lernaeans / Termis could get Deep Strike. Otherwise, I would infiltrate them, maybe together with the Spartan. Actually, I really like the idea of infiltrating every infantry unit, so the Heavy Support squad would infiltrate too, yes.

Okay, first pictures of the Tactical Squad´s color. I have to apologize for the crappy cellphone pics, unfortunately I have no better cam. I also couldn´t catch the color as it is in real. On the pictures, they seem very blue, and of course they are more blue then green, but from above, they habe a nice green-turquoise shimmer.

I hope I can make better pics when they are finished.

The colors I used:
1) Basecoat with Vallejo Game Air Gunmetal
2) First Highlight with Vallejo Game Air Chainmail (sprayed on in 45° angle)
3) Second Highlight with Vallejo Game Air Silver (sprayed on just from above)
4) First green Highlight with Tamiya Clear Green (thinned down to consistency of Vallejo Air colors)
5) Tamiya Clear Blue over all (thinned down to consistency of Vallejo Air colors)
6) Second green Highlight with Tamiya Clear Green (sprayed on just from above)

Next step is applying transfers, paint metalparts with Leadbelcher and wash with Nuln Oil, then make a pinwash with a 50/50% mixture of Nuln Oil and Agrax Earthshade on the armour. Then a coat of Vallejo matt-varnish, drybrush with leadbelcher of the armour-edges, and finally a coat of Vallejo satin-matt-varnish.

Really looking forward to this Falkenfal. Your Blood Angels are superb and that basecoat you have for the AL looks brilliant.

I managed to make a better picture of the blue-greenish shade on the Marines. Still not the best quality but better than the first ones. I also painted the details on the Sergeant. I couldn´t wait for the Forgeworld transfers, so I tried on this one how the colors will work. Now he needs only the transfers, a drybrush or sponge-technique with leadbelcher for the battle-damage and matt-varnish.

Except for the bases, the first 3 Marines are finished. This is how they will look like and I think the armour-color came out very well. I really like those Forgeworld transfers, the chains are superb! What you can´t see on the pictures is the green shade on the top. It´s only visible when you hold them up to the light.

They look excellent. I am sorely tempted to do Alpha Legion. They have a nice scheme, great rules and if I like another Elite unit? I can nick it :D

Quick question about the banner transfers. What Dimensions are they in mm? I was thinking of sculpting my own banner and need the dimensions to get the most from them. I assume all the banners are the same size across the different Legions sheets.

Yesterday I played two rounds with 1250 Points with my Alpha Legion - well, there were only 4 miniatures, the rest was Blood Angels and Iron Hands haha... nevertheless, two victorys. First against the Mechanicum, then against Night Lords.
I had this list:

Praetor on Jetbike
Mastercrafted Paragon Blade
Digital Laders
Iron Halo
Rite of War: Pride of the Legion
Infiltrate

Terminator Squad (Cataphractii)
Plasmablaster
Sergeant with Thunderhammer
Landraider Phobos

Veteran Squad
Vexilla
2x Plasma Gun

Contemptor Mortis
2x Kheres Assaultcannon

Sicaran
2x Heavy Bolters

Looking really good!

One small issue I have though (sort of a personal thing but it is generally accepted)

The hydra on the shoulder should be facing forwards. This isn't specific to the legion but for all things in general ie. Logos on sports helmets, tattoos etc. It looks more "proper" when forwards and will always look a little "off" when facing backwards.

Really liking the use of the chain on the forearm. How difficult was it to get the right size off of the long string of it you get in the decal sheet?

IamOmegon: Thanks ;) Concerning that Hydra-problem: I looked it up from the Horus Heresy Book 3. On page 89 there is the heraldry of the Alpha Legion shown, and the Hydra-head are facing backward. Well, we are even both wrong, because now I see that my Hydras are facing upward... well, shit. But I guess this depends on the orientation - I´m used to put the "chapter icon" on the left shoulder, if you change the shoulder it is facing forwards.

I cut the chain by eye by the way ;)
