Hey guys, so after 6 months away from the hobby and selling all my half started projects I realised I just couldn't stop the heresy train and I'm back haha.

My new train of thought is on the earliest rogue traders and how to represent on the battlefield. I found a little known rogue trader by the name of Arica Orpheus whom the Orpheus sector was named after and I think there's heaps of cool potential there.

So basically I want to model her from the inquisitor greyfax mini and her personal elite guard (command and grenadiers) from the sisters of silence minis. I've chosen the provenances warrior elite and survivors of the dark age as she will be very wealthy and well equipped with power armour equivalent. The provenances really suit and set her up well to have the backing of the imperial navy as the infantry will be almost solar auxilia equivalent in armour (love those models). Finally I want everything to be fast and have transports as I imagine her to be very mobile in exploration and war.

So a few things I'm stuck on is how to transport the grenadiers and they're loud outs in turn. I love the idea of 10 man squads of S5 laslocks in rhinos but I'm thinking special weapons in Arvus lighters might be more useful?

Anyways should have lists and models soon. Any suggestions and ideas would be great.

Cheers
Jake

Sorry, I don't have any suggestions (I don't game so any that I did suggest would probably not help very much :) ) but I look forward to seeing what you come up with. Definitely sounds an interesting mix :).

Another day older; another day wiser... yet sadly, closer to the grave.

Nothing wrong with a flying circus :D

If you put your grenadiers in Arvus lighter you get to take some weapon specialists too.

Oh, and put the command squad in a Land Raider with Explorator Web so you can get those flying things on the field more reliable. Maybe fill Fast Attack with Thunderbolts?

To me the Arvus Lighters seem to fit the narrative more. Light flyers transporting troops down and goods up. Plus it lets you take special weapons.

@Inso - thanks mate, admittedly i'm a huge fan of your squats and your sculpting work is unreal, love the snipers.

@Penddraig and @Prototype - I'm definitely thinking of sticking with the arvus lighter theme but with a bit of a twist. I'm really not a huge fan of sinking 1000pts into a commander and platoon in land raider with 2 squads of grenadiers in arvus lighters. On the other hand i had a little look at the solar auxilia list and i think it could be the better option. For about 5 - 600pts i can get a lord marshal with all the gear including displacer matrix that sounds hella cool and fluffy, plus 2 squads of veletaris as household retinue in arvus lighters. I figured that leaves more points for units and other distractions until the arvus are ready to roll on and hit the stuff thats been annoying me. But thats just a theory as i havent played a game in a while so i cant back it up lol.

Almost forgot there's room for Medicare aswell and 2 choices for FA fighter planes which is cool

Solar Auxilia is a good list. They spearheaded their own Expeditionary Fleets and the narrative fits them with Rogue Traders. A Lord Marshal could fit with the Rogue Trader as well. You also get more troops per slot as they have Tercios with multiple troops per slot but you lose out on the customisation of the Militia. Another factor to consider is the models have less conversion potential than plastic models you could use for Militia and they are resin so that means more expense.

Anyway, good luck with you list. We need more people playing Imperial Army.

Thanks again @penddraig, I always seem to over complicate things and as a result I've never fully completed an army. I think this time I'll stick to my vision of things and afterwards fit it to a list, hopefully by then I'll have more of an idea on where to go with list building.

Been building lists all week and this probably my favourite so far.

2k rogue trader

H.Q
Force commander - 232
Iron halo, Carapace armour, charnabal sabre, plasma pistol
Warlord trait - ruthless tyrant
Provenances - survivors of the dark age, warrior elite

Platoon command (10) - 115
Carapace armour, melta bombs, plasma pistol, refractor field, heavy stubbers

Troops
Grenadiers (20) - 170
Melta bombs, hand flamer, bolters, heavy stubbers
Dedicated gorgon - 340
Armoured ceramite, TL lascannon, lascannon sponsons

Grenadiers (12) - 240
melta guns(2), bolters, meltabomb, hand flamer
Dedicated arvus - TL lascannon

Infantry (20) - 70
Lascarbines, vexilla
Infantry (20) - 70
Lascarbines, vexilla

Militia fire support squad (5) - 125
Heavy flamers

Elites
Medicae (5) - 60

F.A
Arvus lighter - 100
TL lascannon

Thunderbolt - 200
Thunderbolt - 200

So RT and command share the gorgon with grenadiers moving to mid field objectives. Infantry take back field objectives. Melta grenadiers take artillery in enemy deployment backed up by thunderbolts. Flamers in arvus roast stray marines.

It's supposed to be pretty fluffy but also somewhat practical, let me know what you think.

A quick post on my thoughts and ideas for RT Orpheus and her elite guard. I've finally got my hands on the Inquisitor Greyfax model and some sisters of silence and i'm working on getting some bits for conversions. I found a few awesome reference pics.

So somewhere between these two is the plan but i'm not sure about the sister of silence yet. My thoughts are to make all the grenadiers and militia bodygaurd conversions from the SOS to represent their +3 save. Then fill the rest of the platoon command out with SA command and militia with SA infantry aswell? It fits save wise but kind of seems a little to easy and boring. Maybe using Krieg to represent the +4 saves would be a bit more diverse.

Any suggestions appreciated. Cheers
